My name is Woosuk Lee, and I am currently a rising senior at Columbia University. I am an applied mathematics major, a computer science minor, and a premed student. As an avid learner of new ideas, I have been involved in a research on inverse problems in medical imaging that utilizes various techniques in partial differential equations and numerical methods. I am always passionate about studying the intersections of mathematics and medicine, and in the future, I am hoping to join other research opportunities that are more geared towards studying AI in medicine.

Outside of academics, I volunteer in the emergency department at New York Presbyterian Queens, which is a very meaningful and crucial for an aspiring physician like myself. Seeing the interactions between doctors and patients, I understand the empathy, patience, and resilience it takes to be a good physician and try to apply these values to myself. I am also an Advising Fellow at Columbia-Barnard Matriculate, advising and guiding low-income high school students in the college application process.

Ultimately, I hope to become an empathetic physician who can care for the well-being of every patient. With my background in mathematics and computer science, I believe I have the capacity to contribute much more than only practicing medicine; I hope to be able to apply my knowledge in mathematics and science to develop tools and technology that will advance the medical field, such as in medical imaging or AI. I would like to thank SNUAA for supporting my goals and offering this scholarship
