Sung Jung (John) Kim is a senior at Yale University, studying political science and
East Asian Studies. As the son of a Korean immigrant pastor, Sung Jung understands his academic studies and professional ambitions in light of the greater vision, which is to serve God and others. With the goal of becoming a judge one day, he has been faithful in his studies and extracurricular activities. As the chairman of the Yale Political Union’s Federalist Party, a conservative debating society, he chaired the weekly debates on foreign policy, economics, religion, family, and culture. As the co-founder of the Yale Supreme Court Society, he has helped foster an intellectual and dynamic space on campus for students to seriously and respectfully discuss and debate legal and constitutional issues. Thirdly, as the co-president of his Christian fellowship at Yale, he has helped shepherd a spiritual community with humility and gentleness.

Additionally, Sung Jung interned full-time for ten weeks last summer as a congressional fellow with the Korean American Grassroots Conference in the U.S. Congress. He worked in the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Human Rights Commission, where he drafted legislations, organized briefings and hearings, and attended meetings with advocacy groups and foreign delegations. Previously, he worked with the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, where he trained two foreign service officers preparing for diplomatic missions overseas in South Korea; the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, where he monitored and analyzed developments on the Korean peninsula; and the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where he led presentations as the student ambassador in the D.C. metropolitan area. Finally, outside of work, he has served his community as a volunteer at his church’s praise team, lead the string ensemble, and served as the youth group teacher.
