My name is Alice Lee and I am a student at Northwestern University, studying Biological Sciences and Psychology. Spending many nights in the hospital with my brother sparked my interest in becoming a pediatric dermatologist. His severe eczema caused constant itching and bleeding that resulted in severe skin infections. At Northwestern, I perform research in Dr. Amy Paller’s dermatology lab to research atopic dermatitis (AD), particularly creating models that simulate AD to evaluate alterations in various complex components. I am incredibly passionate and eager to learn more in the field of dermatology and constantly strive to expand my knowledge in the field.

I am also a part of many organizations at Northwestern such as AMASE, which stands for Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education where we promote neurodiversity and provide a safe space for students with disabilities to express themselves through music and art. I am also the president of the American Medical Women’s Association chapter at Northwestern. We have collaborated with many other clubs to advocate for women’s health and have hosted many events for pre-med students on campus. Outside of school, I work as a staff support technician at Northshore Evanston Hospital, working directly with patients in various capacities.

During my study abroad experience in Spain, I even had the opportunity to tutor children in their native language. It was a unique and rewarding experience for me as I not only improved my Spanish language skills but also gained a deeper understanding of Spanish culture.

Overall, I am grateful to have been selected for this scholarship, and with this scholarship, I will be advancing my education to become a physician who can provide attainable medical services to underserved communities and give back to the Korean community.
