Cyber attacks are an emerging threat that has caused a trillion dollars worth of annual losses across both the private and public sectors. Recently, the Colonial Pipeline attack disrupted the national supply chain, causing inconvenience to millions of Americans. These kinds of events have captivated me since I began tinkering with computers. Because my mother has consistently instilled in me a strong sense of integrity and morality starting at a young age, I found the defensive side of security more interesting than the malicious counterpart. With this mentality, I began seizing opportunities and eventually found an internship as a security engineer at a Big Tech firm. The work I do currently is heavily technical in nature, but I aspire to make an impact on a grander scale by becoming a Chief Information Security Officer to bridge the gap between business and technology. The ultimate goal is to serve in a leadership position at the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Outside of my career, I desire to provide financial assistance and equity to students from low-income backgrounds because I have experienced the soul-crushing effects of the financial strait. I am grateful that I was chosen to be an SNUAA scholar. In the future, I also wish to bring hope to other persevering students.
