Albert Gang is a junior undergraduate at Yale University from Irvine, California. He is pursuing a BS in Chemistry and a MM in Violin Performance through the Yale School of Music’s five-year dual BA/MM program as well as a Certificate in Energy Studies. He studies violin with Ani Kavafian. Albert has won the National YoungArts Classical Music Division, the Grand Prize of the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards, and competed as a finalist in the Stulberg International String Competition.
At Yale, Albert serves as the concertmaster and first-chair violinist of the Yale Symphony
Orchestra, the main undergraduate orchestra at Yale. He is also a member of the acapella group
Doox of Yale. In his junior year, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the
Joseph Lentilhon Selden Award for excellence in music.
As a chemist, Albert has conducted inorganic chemistry research in the Hazari Lab since the fall
of 2021, working on the synthesis of new transition-metal complexes. Most of his projects have
applications in the solar-powered conversion of carbon dioxide to carbon-based fuels, sparking
an interest in renewable energy. He hopes to make an impact on the clean energy sector. In the
summer of 2023, he is working on lithium-ion battery research at the Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory as a Department of Energy intern.
In his free time, Albert enjoys busking, traveling, and watching new movies
