Announcement

Join us for an evening zoominar with Mia Narae Song on Friday, March 10th!  In this discussion, Mia Song will share with us her undergraduate thesis and award winning essay, “Bridging Sino-U.S. Tensions with South Korea Media Culture.” In her research paper, she examines how Korean cultural media can be a source of soft power to counter rising diplomatic pressures from Sino-U.S. relations. To examine this question, she focuses on the post-Korean War scene and the impact of the U.S. military presence during this era. Moreover, the paper emphasises the need to incorporate universal themes in cultural productions to maximize the reach of South Korean cultural media and, ultimately, the potential of soft power.

Mia Narae Song is an alum of Cornell University, having majored in American Studies with a concentration in socioeconomic and racial inequality, with minors in History, Asian American History, Law & Society, and Inequality Studies. She has also spent a semester abroad at the University of Cambridge, Pembroke College, focusing on human, social, and political sciences.
