I am a rising senior at Northwestern University studying Social Policy with minors in Legal Studies and Psychology. As I prepare for law school matriculation post-grad, I am particularly interested in the intersection between national security and international diplomatic relations.
Currently, I am working as a Policy Analyst Intern at a government relations firm in downtown Chicago, where I drafted policy analyses and briefs for different clients, as well as participating in Chicago’s 2023 Mayoral Election transition committee. At school, I am part of the Executive Board for Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, serving as the incoming Marketing Chair, in addition to co-leading the Podcast Team for Northwestern Undergraduate Law Journal, where I am able to network with various professors and practicing attorneys in law schools and firms to speak with students about varying legal topics.
Having spent my childhood in Seoul, the Korean part of my identity plays a crucial role in crafting how I navigate through America as an Asian American woman. The unique crosshairs in which people who share similar identities as me motivated me to join KAN-WIN during my gap year, a non-profit organization serving to dismantle platforms of gender-based and sexual violence in the Asian American community. It was here that I was able to affirm my passion for civil rights and the greater field of law as I saw firsthand the increasing relevance in many of the cases we dealt with. With my grounded passion came my reaffirmed identity as I began viewing my multiculturalism in a different light, the positive aspects of it growing when I was granted the opportunity to study abroad in Montpellier, France last fall semester. Exploring the necessity of cross-cultural comparisons between not only France and the U.S., but also between South Korea, has only allowed me to grow in my heterogenous identity.
