고 구경회 (의대 59) 동문 별세

1999년 제 18대 시카고 서울대 동창회장을 지낸 구경회 동문님(의대 59)께서 3월 12일  아침에 주님 품으로 돌아가셨습니다. 삼가 고인의 명복을 빌며 유가족분들께 심심한 위로의 말씀을 전합니다. 

장례절차는 다음과 같습니다.

1999년 제18대 시카고 서울대 동창회장을 지낸 구경회 동문님(의대 59)께서 오늘 아침 주님 품으로 돌아가셨습니다. 

그의 아드님 David Koo가 보낸 걸 forward합니다.

Dr. Kyung W. Koo, age 86, passed away on March 12, 2026 peacefully at his home in Elgin, IL.

He was born on March 16, 1939, in Seoul, Korea, a son of the late Bum Suer and Byung Soon Koo.

Dr. Koo graduated from Seoul National University, the leading school in his country, with a premedical degree in 1961 and medical degree in 1965.  He served in the Korean Navy for three years.  He then came to the United States in 1968 to complete his residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and fellowship at the Boston V.A. Hospital.  He practiced internal medicine at Elgin Internal Medical Associates for 32 years caring for patients at Sherman Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL where he started its pulmonary unit.  He tirelessly served his  patients with brilliance and compassion and was honored as a Lifetime Trustee at Sherman Hospital..
He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 61 years, by his three sons Peter, Michael (Grace) and David (Lesly), four beautiful grandchildren Maddie, Vivie, Nathan and Briana and his sister Yoon Ja and numerous nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Yoon Mi.  He provided every opportunity to his family and found joy and pride in witnessing their lives.  His dedication to his family extended to sponsoring relatives who now call the U.S. home.

In his commitment to help others in need, he co-founded the Korean American Senior Center in 1987 which today is named Hanul Family Alliance and remains the largest social service agency serving the Korean American community of greater Chicagoland.  His passion to support extended to Sejong Cultural Society and his church St. Thomas More.

He was an avid golfer, playing baduk (Korean board game) with friends, gardening and loved singing while playing the piano at home and travelled the world with his wife and friends.  He and Anne sang for many years with Korean retiree friends at their glee club.  His closest friends were his high school and university alumni who shared a similar journey to make a life for their families in the U.S.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.  A memorial service celebrating and honoring his life will be held on March 15th, 2026 from 9am-12pm at Laird Funeral Home at 310 S.
