Memoir of October 2025 Bishop Trip

This weekend, 서울대등산반 ventured to Bishop, California, to celebrate the glory of autumn — trembling golden aspens, crisp mountain air, and the quiet majesty of glacier lakes nestled in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

Friday began with a drive along Highway 168 to North Lake, about sixteen miles from our lodge. The strenuous climb to Lamarck Lake (10,900 ft) rewarded us with breathtaking views of Mount Emerson and the rugged Paiute Crags(능선), their reflections shimmering in the alpine blue lake. After descending, we refueled with hearty hamburgers and beer at the Cardinal Café, thanks to 김선기선배’s thoughtful arrangement. Later, we circled Sabrina Lake and South Lake, savoring the crystal-clear waters and the cool mountain wind.

Saturday took us south to Big Pine in the Inyo National Forest, where we walked along the Glacier Cascade Creek beneath the snow-capped Mount Sill (14,000 ft), a sentinel of the Palisade Crest. The grandeur of nature seemed to shift our perspective on life itself. Lunch followed at the historic Whitney Portal Restaurant, a favorite haunt of classic Western movie stars—fittingly located along Movie Road—thanks to 정동구선배.

In the afternoon, we tackled a smaller cousin of the iconic Shark’s Fin Rock, enjoying a bit of climbing while gazing up toward Mount Whitney and down across the Mojave Desert.

The 140-mile drive home felt effortless, buoyed by happiness and shared memories. It was truly a weekend of rejuvenation for body and mind, and reconnecting with friends and nature, thanks to 김동근선배, our dedicated leader, one who will stay with us long after the golden leaves have fallen.
