My name is Rachel Jang and I am a Junior studying Public Health at Syracuse University. I am currently on track to complete an accelerated Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health and Society. My dream is to become a physician assistant and work for an NGO or non-profit organization. I am passionate about reducing health inequities, whether it be in our local communities in America or in other developing countries. In a global context, I aspire to use my skills as a physician assistant to serve on medical mission trips and work on public health projects that will prevent disease outbreaks from occurring. Currently, as a student at Syracuse University, I hold several leadership positions, where I work to create and serve communities in different capacities. As a resident advisor, I do my best to create a safe and welcoming environment for the residents on my floor. I am also deeply involved in Camp Kesem and the Korean Christian college ministry at Syracuse. In Camp Kesem, a club that fundraises for a week of free camp for children who have parents/primary caregivers with cancer, I work as an outreach coordinator here I communicate with camper parents and develop local community relations. I am also a coordinator for the English ministry of the Korean Church of Syracuse. In this position, I lead and coordinate events, community activities, and discussions. In my free time, I enjoy spending time playing volleyball, rock climbing, and playing the guitar. Thanks to the SNUAA scholarship, I will be able to spend more time focusing on my studies, serving the communities around me, and will be able to help my family out financially. For this, I am beyond grateful to the SNUAA scholarship committee for believing and investing in my potential and future.
