Hi, I’m Olivia Han. I was born and raised in Seoul, and I moved to the States at the age of
twelve. Currently, I am a sophomore at MIT majoring in Computer Science with concentration in
Artificial Intelligence and Decision Making. My dream is to apply my knowledge and skills in the
technical field to solve the biggest problems that our society faces today.
Working as a Research Intern at MIT Media Lab in the past summer helped me take my first
step towards my goals of creating an impact. I analyzed human mobility data to derive insights
on how social diversity predicts the economic growth in certain geographic regions. These
trends were used by the government and small businesses to make informed decisions and
improve urban planning solutions.
In the future, I hope to support health equity by developing an artificial intelligence system that
examines lesser-known mental disorders and formulates medications for those suffering from
those conditions. Combining entrepreneurship strategies and powerful tools of technology, I
seek to deliver the benefits of such innovation to marginalized populations in developing
countries.
My future endeavors lie not only in my academic goals but also in my personal goals of
amplifying empathy through community service and social advocacy. In the past, I’ve worked as
a program mentor at a center for people with disabilities, a writer for a non-profit fighting against
world hunger, and a class mentor for a volunteer organization providing free CS education. I
hope to continue working towards my lifelong quest of improving the lives of others in small yet
noticeable measures. In particular, I hope to contribute to accessible education and provide all
students an equal opportunity to learn whatever intrigues them, empowering them to become
leaders of the next generation
