I’m Jayden Lim. I am 20 years old and a rising senior at Stanford University. I study history with an emphasis on American Law, as well as comparative studies in race and ethnic with an emphasis on politics, policy, and equity. I am Korean and Native American whom was raised in Santa Rosa, California. Most of my work lies in the non-profit field as me and my mother created the Tribal Youth Ambassadors Program at the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center. The program received the National Arts and Humanities Award for Youth Programs in 2016 presented by Michelle Obama. I was selected as the guest speaker for the award ceremony in which I detailed the importance of fighting against racism and colonialism. I seek to work in education someday, possibly as a professor or researcher, to expand and share my love of history. Until then, I plan on working towards a PhD after my undergraduate career.

My Korean heritage has played a big role in my life as it has shaped me into the person I am. My father often reiterated the importance of Korean values and culture. I pursued history as my field of study as our past shapes our present just as my Korean ancestors shape who I am today. Though our futures are not predetermined, I feel like history provides us with the knowledge necessary to embark on such a path so that we might intentionally forge our own way through this world. I am very excited and fortunate to be a recipient of the SNUAA scholarship and hope to use the funds provided to reach my goals of sharing education and my love of history with the rest of the world.
