Freshman
Redmond, WA

Daniel Dickman grew up in Redmond, Washington, and is now an undergraduate at Harvard University. He is tremendously grateful to his parents, teachers, and coaches, who have gone to great lengths to give him opportunities to grow, learn, and compete.

At Eastlake High School (EHS), Daniel played center on the basketball team, doubles on the tennis team, and first violin in the orchestra. He was elected president of the EHS Math Honor Society and became the first EHS student to compete in the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad. Daniel won first place nationally in the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association’s National Math and Science Competition and captained the EHS Math Is Cool team to the state championship three years in a row. He served as the lead designer and lead builder for his VEX Robotics Competition team, which won eight state tournaments and the Washington State Championship. Daniel was a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Candidate, a National Merit Finalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Wanting to make the opportunities he enjoyed available to others, Daniel taught at an elementary school math club, mentored a middle school robotics team, coached at basketball camps, and presented computer programming workshops.

Daniel believes that the most important advances in the future will be made by contributors working across multiple fields and that computer software will play a vital role in those advances. To help contribute to those advances, he’s pursuing an honors degree in computer science and mathematics at Harvard University. In addition to studying for his fascinating courses, Daniel has joined the Harvard Computer Society, the Harvard Undergraduate Robotics Club, and Harvard Students for the Exploration and Development of Space. Daniel believes this combination of education and extracurricular activities will help him build the interdisciplinary foundation he needs to realize his goals.

He is grateful to have been named an SNUAA Scholar, and thanks the SNUAA for its support.
