Freshman
Palo Alto, CA
Lauren Lee is a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley, with a pre-law focus and plans to major in Legal Studies. She is a recipient of the Regents and Chancellor’s Scholarship, the most prestigious UC Berkley scholarship offered to only the top 1% of the undergraduate UC Berkeley applicant pool. As an R&C scholar, she has been chosen as a member who helps organize the Regents’ and Overnight host program, playing a vital role in recruiting and supporting future Regents’ and Chancellor’s scholars through campus tours, games, and information sessions about the benefits of being an R&C scholar. She is also a member of the Cal Running Club, where she participates in trail runs while developing resilience and teamwork.
Lauren is dedicated to practicing sustainable habits and global outreach. She has accumulated over 1000 hours of community volunteer service by organizing relief efforts, such as sending sleeping bags to survivors of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes, and providing English tutoring for underprivileged communities in Türkiye, Nicaragua, and North Korea, leveraging education as a powerful tool for social change. She also pursued extensive three-year research about implementing Lactic Acid bacteria on tomato plants to combat the agricultural implications of salinization, which culminated in multiple awards at a regional science fair and two published manuscripts.
In her free time, Lauren enjoys reconnecting with her Korean heritage in the form of webtoons, K-dramas, and preparing Korean recipes.
She is tremendously honored to be awarded the SNUAA USA scholarship and hopes to advance her goal to become an immigration lawyer in a specialized law firm. She hopes to assist those who are afraid to speak up for their beliefs through palpable legal advocacy.
