Dear KSEA members,
Please join us for the KSEA Senior Forum Series—our monthly virtual gathering that offers a welcoming space for seniors to connect, learn, and share. This month’s forum is open to the public, and we invite KSEA members of all ages and backgrounds to attend.
About the presenter
Hee Young Paik, D.Sc. is Professor Emeritus of Food & Nutrition at Seoul National University and former Minister of Gender Equality & Family (Republic of Korea, 2009–2011). She earned her D.Sc. in Nutrition from Harvard after degrees from UC Berkeley and Mississippi University for Women. Dr. Paik led major initiatives including Korea’s Dietary Reference Intakes and national dietary guidelines, directed GISTeR to advance gendered innovations in science and technology, and received honors such as the Order of Service Merit (Blue Medal) and the APCNS Award.
About the talk
“Eating Well for Your Health, Gender Equity and the Sustainable Planet” connects nutrition science with public policy, equity, and environmental sustainability. Tracing Korea’s journey from undernutrition to today’s diet-related chronic diseases, Dr. Paik links research methods—from molecular studies to large-scale epidemiology—to real-world policy outcomes. She will also discuss lessons from U.S. programs (Dietary Guidelines, WIC), Korea’s nutrition policy architecture, and introduce EAT-Lancet planetary-health diets as a pathway that ties health, equity, and climate together.
