My name is Isaac Kim, a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of California, San Diego. I am driven by a strong passion for problem-solving and a desire to apply engineering principles to real-world challenges. My long-term goal is to become an engineer who builds reliable, efficient, and impactful technologies through thoughtful design and continuous improvement.
My interest in engineering began long before college, through hands-on problem-solving experiences. From assembling complex Gundam models to mastering numerous variations of the Rubik’s Cube, I’ve learned to adapt to tough challenges. They taught me patience, precision, and adaptability—skills that now shape my engineering approach. I learned to embrace mistakes as part of the process and to refine solutions through iteration, a mindset that continues to guide my academic and technical work.
At UC San Diego, I have strengthened this foundation through rigorous coursework and project-based learning. Through involvement in the Combat Robotics Club, I have applied mechanical design concepts in collaborative, time-constrained environments that emphasize testing, failure analysis, and continuous improvement.
Boy Scouts has also played a significant role in shaping my leadership and responsibility. Progressing through leadership positions and completing service-based projects taught me how to plan, delegate, and coordinate teams, skills that directly translate to engineering project management and collaboration.
Beyond academics, I enjoy maintaining my physical well-being by keeping a consistent gym regimen and playing intramural basketball with my friends. The balance between each aspect of my life is what helps to keep me driven in my academic and personal endeavors.
Overall, I am motivated by the idea that engineering is not just about solving puzzles, but about what those solutions can achieve. I am eager to contribute my curiosity, technical skills, and work ethic to environments that value innovation, reliability, and meaningful impact.
