Arrim Jung is a writer and film director, South Korea-born and Southern California-raised. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in Film and Visual Media along with Dramaturgy (dramatic script consulting and development), and is a member of the prestigious
Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society.
Immigrating to the United States at a young age and learning English through movie subtitles exposed her early to language barriers, later shattered by music and visual art. Captivated by film’s ability to integrate multiple mediums, she hurled herself into filmmaking to her parents’ terror. Drawn to stories from across the world—or just across the street—she often finds herself with too many project ideas and too little time. Each project is driven by the mission of increasing empathy across cultures, status, abilities, and worldviews, inviting even those from rivaling backgrounds to laugh or cry together.
Beyond making art, she engages in religious and philosophical dialogue, exploring how humans understand the world. She serves as Co-President of her campus’s Veritas Forum chapter, part of a national organization founded at Harvard University to engage college campuses in life-shaping questions. She has led forums such as “What Has AI Done to Me?”, “Did Humans Create God?”, and “Where Do the Three Abrahamic Religions Diverge?”
Her professional experience includes work with Nancy Mosser’s Casting Agency in Pittsburgh and Kyra Sedgwick’s Big Swing Productions in Los Angeles. She is currently pursuing an Accelerated Master’s degree in Entertainment Industry Management through Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College of Public Policy and Management. Through this dual-city program in Pittsburgh/LA and the SNUAA International Summer Program, she seeks to better understand the industry behind her work while strengthening her connection to her Korean heritage. She is eager for the ways the SNUAA Program will enrich her summer with academic and cultural exploration.
